Eeramaana rojaave

Song: eeramaana rojave
singer : K.J.Yesudas
Composer : Ilaiyaraja
Performed by : Murali

It has been quite sometime since I sang a song of my maanaseega gurunathar Shri K.J.Yesudas. So here it is. A beautiful song by Ilaiyaraja based on Madhyamavathi ragam with some profound lyrics like:

"thaNNeeril moozgaadhu kaatruLLa pandhu
ennODu nee paadi vaa sindhu"

which when translated means:

"an air filled ball does not sink. So you come and sing a tamil folk song with me". I dont know what the hell the lyricist had in mind when he wrote those lyrics. Please let me know what you have in mind when you hear me sing :)

  2. Murali,
Nice one. First thing that I notice is the tempo. It is slightly faster. I love this song. One of my favorites. I wanted to sing this one for quite some time. K-track was unavailable. Lucky you got it. Very well sung. And about the lyrics,
I am sure any tamil speaking person would have noticed that piece. :)). Good one.

  3. Hi Murali...

This song has been my favorite song ever since i was 3 yrs old... every time this song plays somewhere my mom gives me that look... which says.. god i had enuf of u muttering this song even when u couldn't pronounce "ponnarame".. :D

kAlang kAthAla all flash back adichuduchuppa... thanks

Nice song... one thing about this song is it is very simple.. straight in terms of both lyrics and music... aana unga voice'la (i donno how to say that..) i think it has more of a shakyness... nadukkam illa... carnatic music padina eppadi irukkum appadi irukku... try it with a plain voice without being consious abt ur vocals...

    Thanks for a good song

  4. OMG,

The final 2 were totally ROFL :) I never knew you to be this funny vijay ! With those pizza kind of lyrics you are very much up there to write some "contemporary" literature in film songs. wishing you all the best !

  5. Murali,

Your start is a little out of sync with the background chimes, then gets right back on track once you start the song.

    Charanams I & II: the starting notes are different but sounds good (-;
Your double voicing is a good idea, but guess you will have decrease the volume of one of the voice tracks since think it jars on the ears. I was waiting to hear Janaki's screechy impersonisation of a 6 year old and was thrilled at its absence! *LOL*

Nice emotions... Mic Mohan's all time hit brought to life- KUDOS!

  6. Murali,

Good rendition..its one of those simple yet haunting melodies..if i can give one piece of constructive criticism (i maybe wrong..it is just an observation)..the first 2 lines of the stanza Ennai paarththu oru maegam..jannal saaththi vittu poagum seem to lack the depth that is conveyed in the rest of the stanza..innum konjum azhutham irunda nalla irukumnu ninaikiren..wat do u think?

  7. Murali:

I was surprised to hear this song after a long long time and that too, your voice suited perfect.

Well, humbly I disagree with Meera's comments "Your start is a little out of sync with the background chimes". I think your start was great, in fact, great from beginning to end.

Thanks for bringing out gems of yester years!

  8. Hey Murali,
Ignore my previous comment. Ippo kaetta perfect a iruku tempo. Guess I was still sleepy when I heard it this AM. Nice one dude. First Charanam la chorus thuli jasthiyonnu thondradhu...and voice level anga anga erangara maadhiri oru feeling.
    As usual bhavam ellam super.

Thanks for the mail alert, this is one of the IR songs i like. I really enjoyed listening to your rendition...as always.
Would you be interested in singing the evergreen solo Eezhisai Geethame..do let me know.

  10. Very nice rendition Murali:) The volume needs to be turned down for the chorus bits.

  11. Murali, the chorus part was very jarring and is irritating as the rest of the song is nice and smooth. So this sudden transition is like an unexpected slap! Please correct that. Also in the end "unpola ennasai" went totally out of control. As meera told I also feel that in the begenning there was a small beat miscalculation in the chime part.
Rest was sung with total emotions as usual.

  12. Murali,
As always, have the sung it very well. Since this song is a slow , without much varaitions kind of song, I observed 2 things...

    1) The tabla beat (??!),which accompanies the song, is at a higher volume than your vocals, distracts me from your vocals. [Pakka-vaadhyam , pakka-vadhyam aaga-than irukkanum. ] If that's a karaoke issue, don't bother.

2)Murali's chorus: Unexpected and also for a song like this, it distracts the listener.

BTW, panthu-nu sonnathum, I rememberd "devuda devuda" song.

Poo panthai yarum, neeril pothithaan veachalum,
    Panthu varum thanni mealathaan

  13. Murali, agree with Pradip on the chorus part. Rest is good as usual. :-)

  14. Murali,

Sorry for coming a little late to listen to you.

    Kalakkitaa kanna, kalakkita poh.!

Talking about Metaphors and VJANAND's comments...I feel tempted to equate it to something modern ...! But I am afraid I'll spoil the sanctity of this great song !

If a modern poet writes it...he might do this...

    ENNAI PAARTHU ORU MEGAM
    'INNA' NU KETTU VITTU POHGUM!

Your singing is absolutely flawless. Volume went up a litte in the middle but that's Ok and I think your voice was also split...was it a special effect?

Thanks for mentioning the raagam - Now I know that 'Suvee Suvee', 'Ragasiyamaanadhu Kaadhal' also falls into Madhyamaavathi!

  15. Very well sung... i liked the 'ponnAramE' part.. something different and sounds good.. volume at that part can be reduced a little bit..

the karaoke is very good.. but i feel that there is something missing in the tabla beats.. either the volume is too high.. or there is a slight pitch mismatch.. or it simply does not sound original.. don't know

  16. Divya:

Thanks. He is my fav too.

    Krishna:

I can send you the K-trk. you may sing and release. I think the trk is indeed a little faster than the original. But that is the price we pay :)

    Kanya:

That was a nice anecdote. I used to pain my folks with the song "veththal veththala veththalaiyO" :)

    Meera:

I think some notes are indeed different. Thanks for keeping me on my toes.

    Sandhya:

Honestly, I am wondering if I can still infuse more bhaavam in it. I am afraid I am hitting a dead end in infusing bhaavam since I really do not seem to be able to think of how I can improve the bhaavam. Coudl you please send me a specific lines with specific suggestions ? I will be able to imbibe them and do appropropriately. Thanks.

    sruthi:

I love that song. But I think I am really not that good at delivering therock bottom base notes delivered by KJY in a pristine fashion. I request pradip to do sing it since he has an excellent range and control.

    Vidya:

    Thanks you.

    Pradip:

The chorus portion must have been done with more care. un pola ennaasai is indeed not very well delivered. thanks for the comments.

    aravind:

The beat of the karaoke is indeed a little irritating. And the chorus was just done for the heck of it. was getting bored with singing the song as is :)

    NV sir:

there are plances the song goes out of madhyamavathi. but the feel is indeed intact. thanks for your feedback.

    Balaji:

Same obsvn made by aravind. KAroake beats are a little distracting indeed. thankss for listening.

You have chosen a song that will surely bring lot of old memories to folks here :) that includes me also. One of IR awesome compositions. The orchestration is so unique isn't right from guitar, kybds lead to violins. I am sure it is one of those unique composition based on Madhyamavati raagam during those days.

Murali one thing I noticed at 3:43-47 your notes sounded little different/strained other than that it was nice rendition.

  20. Hi Murali,

Nice singing. Emotion in the voice is obvious without overloading. Nice. I havent heard this song so far. To me, the tabla beat seemed too minimal for its own good, and a bit mechanical I shud say. As others said, vocal overdubs cud have been a little restrained.
