Song : Karaigindra mEgam
Singer : Sindhuja Bhaktavatsalam
Lyrics: Murali Venkatraman
Composition : Murali Venkatraman
Genre : Meera Bhajans
Meera-Krishna is one of my favorite themes. Being a skeptic, I have asked myself so many times :
"Was Meera a deranged lady who sought the invsible Krishna in spite of all the wealth and pleasures that a palace had to offer ? Or was she a true representative of the concept of a devotee established to realize the invisible fabric of cosmic consciousness ?"
I have not been able to satisfactorily answer myself either way till today. However, when I look at some of the beautiful poems by Meera Bai, I could see Meera representing a selfless, although unrequited love. She was definitely not deranged. So what was she ? I have wondered many times how this basic emotion - love - especially when unreturned could be explained scientifically. It is an unresolved question still. Till the day it is understood Meera has all my appreciation.
Sindhuja - one of my favorite singers - has been a singing force in the blogs. This particular song was composed by me with Vani Jayaram in mind. Sindhu has done a vey good job in capturing the soul of the song in a different but pleasing manner. Please let us know what you feel about it.

=======
============
============

Murali, very nice composition. The highlight is variations in the tune, nice lyrics and vocals. except pitch in 1 or 2 places. eg. Nee(for the first time only) unarnthala....& Khadalai....
ReplyDeleteGreat work. keep it up
wow! very good even though the love was one way through meera.
ReplyDeleteMurali, loved the flavor of kalavati throughout :) lovely composition!
ReplyDeleteSindhu, u've sung it beautifully..love ur voice :) just felt touching the lower notes and some murkhis cld hv been smoother....no biggy :) enjoyed it a great deal :)
a tip: i get the feeling this is not a viruttam. then, sticking to thalam is important. good composition.
ReplyDeleteNice composition and wonderful singing, but I do agree with Vidyu, some of the allaps could have been smoother but still hitting each and every note. Murli, just recording with Tanpura you are not allowed to get away without the real music. The composition is incomplete and in the next post we expect it with the music. You better start working on it :D
ReplyDeleteStill it gives nice soothing effect….Well done!!!
Wonderful song! Murali, your songs on Krishna is always sweet. This composition is also too good and Sindhu has done a very good job in bringing it to life. Kudos to both of you!
ReplyDeleteMurali, Sindhu:
ReplyDeleteVery pleasing to hear!
Thanks for such a treat.
Nalini.
Nice one - Murali and Sindhuja. I love this one ...but just curious why is that this and alamkrita come with no orchestration? Is that your preference? I think both could benefit from some light perc and divine orch. -loosely like Nila Kaigirathu.
ReplyDeletehey murali,
ReplyDeletegood work by you & Sindhuja... rombho nalla composition gven by you & equally sindhuja has gven her best to this meera bhajan.... good work by both of you... again nalla virundhu kidaithadhu.......
gv us treat like this re...... ALL D BEST.........
Hi MS
ReplyDeletevery nice composition and wonderful singing by Sinduja. It can be a value added gem, if you add some more musical instruments with thambur. Expecting ...
Thank to all of you who have commented and encouraged. One of my regular readers has asked me :
ReplyDelete"Murali :
the first 2 lines rhyme together well.. but they seem to have a disconnect in the meaning. I don't understand how you can compare the benefits (payan) of rain.. to the tears of meera.. meera thinks krishna finds enjoyment in her miseries.. but where is the payan? "
The answer is as follows:
very good composition Murali, and as always Sindhuja does full justice to the song, can't say anything about the lyrics :-(..., kudos to both of you for coming up with such a beautiful piece to listen to.
ReplyDeleteExcellent composition......And beautifully renedered by Sindhuja. Hats off to both of you :).
ReplyDeleteMurali - first time visitor here. Wow - what amazing creativity....simply loved the composition. Sindhuja has done justice to it. The lyrics are tastefully written too. I gather you are Ph.D scholar looking at the previous post. May I ask what you specialize in?
ReplyDeletethanx dhiraj divya and anita. Anita, I specialized in modeling of fuel cells and batteries.
ReplyDeleteAmazingly intricate brigas done exceedingly well by Sindhuja. I kind of agree with Vidyu and Swati's mention about low notes though.
ReplyDeleteVery hummable melody.. Nice work!
@ Murali and Sindhu: my knowledge and ability to comment on carnatic music is rather limited...the things i can say though are a) the melody is super sweet b) very nice work sindhu...great job folks
ReplyDeleteThank you, all.
ReplyDeleteSwati, Vidyu, Meera- thanks. My range is something I wish was better! Shall work on it. Thanks again.
Good composition and Good Singing..

Santosh
I just want to say that,
ReplyDeleteToday is one of the very best days in my life. I listened all your compositions in this page.
I just don't want to insult the song, as well as the creators of the song by using some simple words such as "splendid" , "Superb", "Excellent" etc.
Keep rocking!!!
Murali Chetta, You have inspired me to do more. Thanks a billion for these songs and for giving me at least the thought of doing more, through your songs. You have become my role model, I am so blessed to get at least a word from you on my songs.
With lots and lots of Love,
Arun.
Nice composition and very well rendered by Sindhuja. It is quite difficult to sing a song without music (at least for me) From a singing perspective, there is room for improvement while rendering the lower notes. Overall a great effort!
ReplyDeleteHi Murali,
ReplyDeleteI came across this (Karigindra Megam) song in your website a few months ago and wanted to play it for a friend of mine today. I come to your website once in a while to listen to your music.
Especially this particular composition of yours is just awesome. You and Sidhuja has done a great job. Link does not work both in your page as well as Sindhuja's page. Could you please bring it to life?
Thanks.

Raam:
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words. Both sindhu and I checked our players and the songs seems to play fine. I believe it may be a problem at your end with either the browser (use IE) or may be hipcast downtime. Thanks.
