Kanava Illai Kaatra

Song: Kanava illai Kaatra
Movie : Ratchagan
Composer: A.R.Rehman
Singer: Srinivas
Performed by : Murali Venkatraman

I am posting a karaoke after quite a break. My version of this beautiful composition by Rehman soulfully rendered by Srinivas. I ripped off the initial loop from the original song and used it repeatedly and to create karaoke for myself :)

  2. This song is such a melody that you would want to listen to it continuously. Almost all songs in this movie are noteworthy.

A good attempt. But somehow to me, your voice seems to be at falsetto. Is that so?

  3. Murali, I have not listened to the original, but could imagine it..you have soul dissolved in this rendering..loved it. Jawa

  8. Have heard the original song but unsure that I remember any of it.

It's good attempt but felt your voice slipping in pitch here and there. Do correct me if I am wrong.

Your voice sounds fresh and nice though :)

  16. Murali...very good rendition...I dont know if its just me...butkinda felt your voice sounded a lil weak compared to your other compositions....was it done intentionally to bring out the bhavam in that song?? ;)..so when are the original compositions coming up??

    Hello Murali,

This is my first time to your blog. Being no singer at all, my recently established goal was to try and perfect atleast one song and sing it good, and I chose Raasaathi unna, for it. I was searching randomly for "Raasathi unna" from Vaidehi kaathirundhaal and stumbled upon your website.

Initial thoughts were my lung capacity is abyssmal, from no physical activity. Was surprised to see that an accomplished singer such as yourself had the same issue. I dont know if this was because of your 1-take recording.
Listened to a couple of songs - Raasathi unna, Pothi vecha malligai mottu, Kaiyil midhakkum kanavaa nee. Raasaathi unna is excellent but Pothi vecha rendition is out of this world. Ms. Vidhya's bhaavam is great while her diction is much better than Saadhana Sargam/Shreya Ghoshal, given that she is new to Tamil. May be her being a Tamilian helped a bit, but honestly, I think playback singers/music directors should pay more attention to the prono/en-ciations.

Strangely, was thinking your voice sorta resembled Shreenivas' and much to my surprise, your latest blog was Kaiyil midhakkum. Honestly, I think I was right.

Your attention to details is incredible. I am a very nuances person and you do a great job. Will keep visition for more. Sorry, I e-mailed instead of commenting !

    Hi Murali,

I am a regular visitor to ur blog...i havent been able to comment on any of your songs..precisely because i am dumbstruck many times...the way u approach a song is beyond imagination...

Being a fanatic of AR Rahman...this is definitely one of my favourites..i think Srinivas would be grateful to ARR forever for giving him a song like this...

The first thing i felt when i listened to this.."indha paata ipdi kooda paada mudiyuma"...Being a blunt critic..i generally cannot accept my favorite songs being sung any different from the original..this one i must say is an exception..

There is a natural feel in ur voice..u probably dont need to emote at all...i am at a complete loss of words ...all i can say is...am extemely delighted i listened to this!
