Meena - who is a new talented face in the audio blog world was kind to invite me to sing this song with her. I have tried to iron out some of the pronunciation problems in the original. Hope you like it.

  1. Murali- nice to hear u sing after long. May be lack of touch, but I found some strain and offs in the high notes. Your feel was as usual bang on.
Meena: your voice is so perfect for this song. You should exploit it better IMHO. You could have avoided some slips in shruthi too.

  4. my honest & frank comments about this song is "not upto the d mark"... the song was sung really very faster... its SAHANA SAARAL not CHAARAL...meena was really very fast with her part in the song...murali was OKK but really expected some good efforts from him...but overall a satisfactory work..

  5. Beautiful choice ! Not a easy song to perform. You both have done the justice to it !

Murali:Very good singing. but the scale is not very comfortable for you to reach the higher notes. Your natural voice sounded a bit odd with lot of reverb to it.

Meena : Beautiful voice and very much apt for this song. Felt some shruthi off and can do much better with more practice

    Enjoyed it !

  6. Murali, I think this was not the right choice for you to sing. Places were the shruthi goes high and off notes here and there. The mixing is very good though.

  7. Good work guys. Murali, Nice to hear you voice after a long time. I can hear you taking breath in between.
Meena, your voice suits for this song very much. One or two words are not pronounced clearly.

  8. thanks to all.

Ramya : the correct way to pronounce is indeed chaaral and not saaral. there is no sa in tamil. We use sa only in words borrowed from other language (e.g. sahaana, sahara, sorgam etc.)

Mulla: nice to see you reaching newer heights ;) Were you at a Lake Murray concert these days, this would be on the neyar viruppam list....

    Meena's voice is awesome!!

On your previous comment to Ramya: you should then sing "Chakaaanaa Chaaral Thoorudhoe" - eh?

  10. hahaha..no they are not 'indigenous' tamil words and are pronounced as they are supposed to in their language.

There are some conflicting thoughts on this: some words like lakshmaNana have been 'tamilized' as 'ilakkuvan'. But a general rule is that the words which are 'indigeneously tamil' do not have so called "sa", "ha", "sha" , "ba" etc.

  11. very nicely sung with improvisations and different pronunciations...the high pitches are in fact pleasant (unlike the original song itself!)...
    Amazing performace by Meena.

  12. Hey. No comments on the pronounciation. MSV knows why I suppose :)

A new find u say, Meena? She is damn good for songs like this...the perfect playback voice.

Nice job. Many slips avoidable though

  13. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Murali and Meena. Murali, you were hitting the high notes (Oraaiyiram.. Nooraayiram...) so much ease. Great job guys.

Seeing so many comments about pronouciation, I am inclined to add my 2c. :) Since I am not too sure on the correct pronouciation for "Cha/Saa-ral", I will just say that "Chaaral" also sounded good to me.

But then most of the places where "Cha" comes in Tamil, we pronounce only as "Sa". E.g., Saambhar, Sandhosham, Sangeetham. In fact the only place I feel we prounce "Cha" as "Cha" is when it comes along with "ch". E.g., (ThangaCHchilai, AaraiCHchi, ManasaatCHchi)
