Mandram vandha thendralukku

Song : Mandram vandha
Movie : Mouna ragam
Composer : IR
Singer : SPB

Performed by : Murali

This song is special to me since it was the first one that introduced me as a singer to my undergrad college. I have sung this song so many times on stage, that I have forgotten the count. Recently Sukhanya, a blogger friend and VRS - a cecri friend talked about me singing this song. I thought after so many songs in my blog, this is something that I had to sing since I have sung this the most in concerts. The track does not have any music. Just shruthi and my voice. LEt me know what you guys think.

  3. Murali excellent rendering, kalikitappa.
(this song has some awesome chord progression and bass runs, I did the bass run along with your voice ;)

Anup why dont you support the song with chord changes (acoustic guitar would be nice) what say ?

  6. anup:

if u are willing to do the chord support, we can do. To create a karaoke is too time consuming :(

    bharat:

yes. That was the idea. I seem to be having severe latency problems while running a mic through Yamaha MOTIF ES into the audigy soundcard..donno how to fix it.

    Ganesh:

This song has one of the mos beautiful orchestrations.

    nalini /poorni:

    thanks.

  10. Dear Mulla,

Thanks so much for heeding to my request. Firstly, as you know very well, I am just a great listener..thats all.. To this composition of yours, my reaction is same as the old fisherman's in the movie "Sindu Bhairavi" when he complements Sivakumar who sings "Manathil Uruthi Vendum".. The fisherman says.."..nalla paadinenge tambi".. I am saying.."..nalla paadinenge Murali"..

Risking being termed hyperbolic.. I have to say this.. I started becoming an Illayaraja fan and a general lover of Tamil Music because of the songs that you sang for us in the first year..remember you strumming the guitar and playing it as if it was a veena or something? Illaya Nila.. Mandram Vandha.. Vaasam Ilaa ..Gangai Karai ...thanks for introducing me to the melody of my roots.. For a much-travelled person like me..Tamil Film Music by Illayaraja acts as the link back to my long lost roots with my homeland and nationality.. and I owe this to your engaging voice and great friendship..

    Keep up the good work..
    Regards,
    VRS

I think this is what an artist can look for as the best compliment. I am glad that in so many days of singing, I could finally move one of my listeners. NV, thanks for sharing this. I am more encouraged to do better stuff now.

Ella vidhathilum miga arumaiyaaga irukku. When I listed to this song from you for the first time, your performance was so good that I decided to be very critical. So I listened to your song many times in the last few days and at different time of the day. Even at 6 in the morning. Check your sitemeter, you will know :-)
As Roger Ebert says, it's "Two thums up". Kalakeetinga !!

  21. Murali:

Awesome 'painful' start-- showing the mood of the song.

Good crisp brigas in the pallavi. The reverb in the 1st charanam is very apt for the mood, dunno why though!

Uravum alla improv in the 2nd charanam is delectable! So is bhoopaalame and koodadhenum...

    Ofcourse, I have the same comments as NV with regards to the words in the pallavi but it's discounted due to your wonderful rendition (-;

    Kudos!!
